Peddlers and Solicitors Ordinance

The City of Piqua Peddlers and Solicitors Ordinance is available for review below under "Related Documents."

Some key points include:

  • Section Two of the ordinance (111.02) does not apply to the following: (A) Persons selling on behalf of or making or seeking delivery of goods, wares, merchandise, foodstuffs, or services sold by an establishment having a permanent place of business that is in good standing with the State of Ohio and the City.
  • There are a number of restrictions in the city ordinance related to false or misleading information, behaviors, etc. that a citizen can call the police to investigate if they have concerns regardless if the person(s) has a valid permit or not. Specifically, under Section 111.08 Prohibited Acts it states: (A) No person, while engaged in any profit or non-profit solicitation, shall knock at the door or ring the bell of any home, apartment, apartment building or other dwelling unit in the City upon which is displayed at the entrance a notice which reads “No Peddlers or Solicitors Allowed,” or which otherwise clearly purports to prohibit peddlers or solicitors on the premises, unless the peddler or solicitor is or has been invited on the premises by the owner, lessee or occupant thereof. Posting this notice at your front door would prohibit peddlers or solicitors from being a nuisance.

Citizens can contact the non-emergency dispatch number at 937-440-9911 to speak to an Officer if they have a complaint or concern related to a peddler or solicitor.
