MEETING MINUTES

Frank Patrizio made a motion to approve the August 3, 2007 meeting minutes
as submitted and Rosemary Howell seconded the motion.

NEW BUSINESS

Bob Graeser informed the Tree Committee that Chairman Steve Trostel has resigned his position on the Tree Committee effective September 4, 2007.

ITEM NO. 1: DISCUSSION ON THE OCTOBER TREE PLANTING.

The date for the fall tree planting has been changed to October 13th due to conflicts with the committee members.

The committee agreed to have training hosted by Master Gardener Dan Poast at Upper Mote Park at 8:00 a.m. on the 13th.

Jack Hepler, stated that he thought it would be best to do container trees instead of "Ball and Burlap". It was decided that this type is easier to handle and would save time without compromising the planting process.

The group also discussed the size of the auger due to the container trees being smaller in size than the "Ball and Burlap" trees. Jack also brought some information on staking the trees. The committee agreed to use three stakes, or dowels, to support the trees and cover them with mulch.

It was discussed that the Gator bags that were installed on the trees from the spring planting should remain on until after October 13th.

Bob Graeser will contact Jim Oda to see if we can get some volunteers from the Rotary Club for the upcoming planting. The Committee agreed that we need about thirty-five people (seven groups of five) at a minimum to accomplish this task all in one day.

It was also mentioned that Jim Hemmert, Tony Lyons Assistant Principal of Piqua High School, and perhaps the JVS Horticultural Instructor might be able to help with volunteers.

Jack Hepler and Bob Graeser will locate all the trees prior to the planting, to check on the utility conflicts and proper placement.

Rosemary Howell will take care of contacting the homeowner to make sure they will be present and have water in the area of the planting.

Rosemary will also take care of the refreshments the morning of the event.

OTHER BUSINESS

Bob Graeser spoke to the group about a tree planting that will be happening in Rowan Park. The Committee discussed different types of trees that would be suitable in this area.

He will keep the committee informed and make a presentation for them at the next meeting.
