MEMBERS PRESENT: Don Ruffner, Melissa Randles, Wayne Pope, Judy Terry, Melissa Reed and Brad Boehringer

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

STAFF PRESENT: Bob Graeser

SPECIAL GUESTS: Jack Hepler and Jolaine Routson

MEETING MINUTES

Don Ruffner approved the meeting minutes, and seconded by Wayne Pope.

NEW BUSINESS

Doug Harter, Street Department Superintendent asked if the committee would approve the removal of the two dying trees in Fountain Park. The committee approved with the recommendation of Bob Graeser.

ITEM NO. 1: DISCUSSION ON THE UPCOMING TREE PLANTING

Bob Graeser decided that the meeting location will be Upper Mote, at 8:30 on the 10th of May.

The volunteer list is being organized by Grace United Methodist Church. Mr. Graeser has been in contact with the organizers to make sure that volunteers meet expectations of the day of the event.

Mr. Graeser asked Jolaine Routson to give the committee her opinion on staking trees and mulching. Jolaine brought a new and fresh perspective, and the committee agreed to adopt her methods and would like to accept Jolaine as a city advocate for the care of our city trees. Jolaine's experience in landscaping spans over thirty years and the committee appreciated her input.

It was decided not to use the Gator Bags on this planting, because the caliper of the tree won't support the weight of the necessary water that it takes to fill the Gator Bags.

Mr. Graeser said he would provide watering instructions and maintenance instructions for the homeowners.

ITEM NO 2

Mr. Graeser brought to the committee's attention that there will be a hearing for all the merchants that are affected by the two Pear trees on the Canal Place Parking lot.
He said he would send out letters to all the parties so they would have an opportunity to express their concerns with keeping the trees or having the trees removed.

OTHER BUSINESS

At the conclusion of the meeting Jack Hepler asked to be excused from the committee. Jack feels that his health prohibits him from being as active as he would like so he feels best to remove himself as an active participant.

Wayne Pope called for adjournment and Judy Terry seconded the motion.
