| City
of Piqua Has a New Utilities Department
|
|
The newly formed Utility Department
was created from the realignment of the organizational structure
of the City of Piqua. The Utility Department is comprised of
four separate divisions: Water, Wastewater and the newly formed
Underground Utility Department and Storm Water Utility. These
four divisions will be under the direction of David T. Burtner,
Director of Utilities.
The Water Department (Phone 778-2090) located at 9300 N. State
Route 66 is under the direct supervision of Water Superintendent
Donald Freisthler. Mr. Freisthler is responsible for the Piqua
municipal water system which includes the operation and
maintenance of the treatment plant, the pumping stations and the
elevated water towers. He is also responsible for all the
personnel within the department.
The Wastewater Department (Phone 778-2088) is located at 121
Bridge Street under the direction of Wastewater Superintendent,
David Davis. Prior to being promoted, Mr. Davis served as the
Assistant Superintendent for many years. As the superintendent,
Davis oversees the Wastewater Treatment plant employees. They
are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant,
lift stations, and the new equalization basin.
The new Underground Utility Department (Phone 778-2088) is also
located at the Wastewater Treatment facility at 121 Bridge
Street. The Underground Utility Department is responsible for
the maintenance and repair of the distribution or collection
systems of three programs: the water distribution system, the
wastewater collection system, and the new stormwater collection
system. This new department will be under the Supervision of
Underground Utility Superintendent Todd Brandenburg and
Underground Supervisor Shane Johnson.
A Storm Water Program Coordinator, will be named at a later
date. In the interim questions regarding the Storm Water Utility
should be directed to Mr. Burtner at 778-2054 or City Engineer
Amy Havenar at 778-2044.
The reason for the new department is to give better service to
the public and to maintain all three areas with less manpower.
This will be accomplished by cross training all department
employees and using the same equipment in all three areas. In
addition, this new organization will aid in the implementation
of the new Stormwater Utility Program in Piqua which is a state
and federally mandated program to reduce pollution in Piqua's
waterways.
