"Art of Dying" Tour Offered by Piqua Historical
Society |

The Piqua Historical Society will be
offering a walking tour of Forest Hill Cemetery entitled the
"Art of Dying." The tour will be held on Saturday,
October 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. and the cost is $5 per person. The
one-hour tour will start and end at the Office by the main gate
off of Broadway (SR 66).
Tickets can be purchased at the Mainstreet Piqua office, located
at 326 N. Main Street or mail a check made out to "Piqua
Historical Society" and mail it to PO Box 1703, Piqua, OH
45356.
A companion walking tour brochure with photographs and
descriptions was developed by the Local History Department at
the Piqua Public Library and will be provided to all tour
participants.
"Cemeteries have developed their own unique architecture
and symbolism." says tour leader Jim Oda. "The tour
will highlight angels, saints, eagles, vines and wreathes from
the nineteenth and early twentieth century's and discuss their
meaning and significance." Oda explained.
Those interested in participating in the tour are encouraged to
purchase their tickets early as the tour will be limited to the
first 30 registrants.
