Have you ever wondered what the
Miami and Erie Canal would have looked like in the fall? On
Saturday, October 13, 2012 you will have your chance to find
out. There will be two canal boat rides aboard the General
Harrison of Piqua; one at 1:00 p.m. will travel north to
Lock 8 and return to the landing. The second ride at 2:30 p.m.
will travel the entire length of our section of the canal to
give passengers an idea of what canawlers saw in the 1840's as
they moved across western Ohio at four miles per hour. For those
visitors who prefer to keep their feet on dry land, a hayride at
4:00 p.m. will take visitors along the towpath. An encampment of
re-enactors will also help take visitors back to the early part
of this site's rich history. Join the staff and volunteers of
the Johnston Farm & Indian Agency for this special fall
afternoon and take part in a variety of activities and
demonstrations at the home of John Johnston as well as a tour of
his home. Be sure to include a visit to the Historic Indian and
Canal Museum.
All of these activities will be
included in the cost of your site admission of $8.00/adults,
$4.00/children 6-12. Admission is free to members of the
Johnston Farm Friends Council, the Ohio Historical Society, as
well as children 5 and younger. AAA and Senior discounts are
also honored.
The Johnston Farm & Indian
Agency is located just off SR 66, three miles north of Piqua at
9845 North Hardin Road. For additional information about events
