Water Testing

City of Piqua Ohio Water Plant

City of Piqua Ohio Water Plant

Due to the recent toxic algae concerns in area waters, the City of Piqua Water Department decided to be proactive and check our sources for possible contamination. At the present time, the EPA does not mandate that the city check for these toxins. On Monday Aug. 4th, samples were collected from The Great Miami River, Swift Run Lake, Frantz Pond, and the City's gravel pit pond. Samples were also collected from the plant finished water. We are pleased to report that all sample test results came back with non-detectible levels for the toxic algae. The Water Department treats these raw water sources regularly for the prevention of algae. We will also continue to test for toxic algae bi-weekly for the remainder of the peak algae season.

In the design of the new water treatment plant, we have included a granular activated carbon system that will be able to remove these contaminants as well as others that may potentially be harmful to the public.
