On July 20th the Piqua Police Dept.,
with assistance from the Miami and Shelby County Sheriffs
Offices, conducted a drug sweep. A total of 25 suspects (23
adults, 2 juveniles) have been either indicted or charged with
63 counts involving Trafficking, Permitting Drug Abuse, and
Complicity to Trafficking. Drugs involved included Marjiuana,
Crack Cocaine, Powder Cocaine, Heroine, and pharmaceuticals.
Officers were briefed at 9:00a.m. and
by 2:30p.m. 17 of the 25 had been
arrested. Three suspects had
previously been arrested and were already in the Miami County
Jail. As of 2:30p.m. there are 5 suspects currently still at
large and officers will continue searching for them throughout
the weekend.
(UPDATE July 23, 2007: 20 of the 25 have
been arrested - only two of the suspects
remain at large.)
Drug Trafficking and any and all
related crimes continues to be a focus for the Piqua Police
Dept. and this community. Community members have been and
continue to be partners with the Police in the investigation of
drugs.
