the Office of Mainstreet Piqua: Downtown Planters Benefit
from New Partnership |
| |
Downtown Piqua’s planters promise
to look extra good this year thanks to an exciting new
partnership between Mainstreet Piqua, Green Leaf Garden Club,
the Piqua Garden Place and the City of Piqua.
In late 2007 the Green Leaf Garden Club members approached
Mainstreet Piqua with a series of suggestions to help the
organization by improving the appearance of the 52 flower
planters located throughout downtown Piqua.
Mainstreet Piqua and the Green Leaf Garden Club then called on
Piqua Garden Place’s Doug Knouff to prove technical assistance
on flower selection and maintenance advice for the 2008 planter
program. As a result of the conversations downtown’s planers
will get a new look this summer.
In mid-May the decorative planters will be planted with hearty
purple wave petunias, sweet potato vine and red fountain grass.
The fountain grass will provide an exciting height to the
planters while the wave petunias, along with the lime colored
sweet potato vine, will provide an exciting plash of color at
each planter location.
In addition to giving their time and energy to the program the
Green Leaf Garden Club has committed to sponsor the cost of
plantings in twenty planters. The flowers and plantings will be
purchased, at a discounted rate, from Piqua Garden Place. The
City of Piqua has agreed to continue their commitment of
watering the planters twice each week through the summer.
Mainstreet Piqua is currently raising the remaining funds needed
to purchase the remaining flowers and plantings for the
planters.
Those wishing to contribute to the planter program may send a
check made payable to Mainstreet Piqua to PO Box 1703, Piqua, OH
45356. For more information about the planter program, or
Mainstreet Piqua, please call Mainstreet at 937-773-9355. |
