Friends of the Piqua Parks is
a new group that has formed to help raise funds to improve the
Piqua Park System. The Fundraising Committee consists of
Chairperson Ruth Koon, Chuck Peltier, Glenn Devers, Edna Stiefel,
and Ann Debrosse Comer.
Their first major effort is to
raise $275,000 to make improvements to Pitsenbarger Park.
Pitsenbarger Park has not been upgraded in a the past few years
and the additional features are hoped to increase public
participation at the park. The improvements include a new splash
pad, picnic shelters, and shade structures for the Municipal
Pool, new landscaping and signage for the park entrance, a
statue of William Pitsenbarger acknowledging his heroism, along
with a lighted flagpole.
Additional improvements desired
for the park include a walking/bike path around the perimeter,
an additional slide for the pool, and new pool furniture and
umbrellas.
The Friends of the Piqua Parks is
currently securing IRS 501(c)3 status in order to provide tax
deductions to contributors. |
