Beginning the middle of February,
construction crews working for Vectren will begin replacing
natural gas mains and services in Piqua as part of the company's
pipeline replacement program. This is a 20-year program to
replace more than 1,700 miles of aging bare steel and cast iron
pipeline infrastructure throughout Vectren's service territories
in Indiana and Ohio. In Piqua, nearly 3,700 feet of gas main and
approximately 140 service lines will be replaced in 2012.
The areas of work in Piqua for
2012 include the following:
Sunset Dr. between Park Ave. and Dubois Drive
Willard St., Leonard St., and Fisk St. between Clark Ave. and
Summit St.
Summit St. between Willard St. and Roosevelt Ave.
Y Street between Fisk St. and Roosevelt Ave.
Roosevelt Ave. between Brook St. and College St.
McKinley Ave. between South St. and Plum St.
Plum St. between Renche St. and McKinley Ave.
Garfield St. between Beverly Dr. and McKinley Ave.
The work will consist of
installing a polyethylene (plastic) system to replace the
current bare steel and cast iron gas pipeline system. First, the
gas main will be replaced within the right-of-way, and then the
service lines serving residential and commercial customers will
be replaced. Upon completion of the project, affected yards,
sidewalks and streets will be restored.
Prior to service replacement, a
Vectren representative will contact customers to schedule this
portion of the work, which will involve a short service
interruption. Additionally, a Vectren representative will
schedule a time to relight any natural gas appliances of
impacted customers.
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as
the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce
their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through
the work zone area.
All work is weather permitting. |
