To improve system reliability for
natural gas to customers, Ritter Pipeline crews working for
Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio (Vectren) will soon begin
replacing gas mains and services in Piqua. The work is part of
the company's pipeline replacement program, which is a
multi-year program to replace nearly 2,000 miles of bare steel
and cast iron pipeline infrastructure throughout its service
territories in Indiana and Ohio. In Piqua, approximately 17,290
feet (3.27 mi.) of gas main and 349 service lines will be
replaced in 2014.
The areas of work in Piqua for
2014 include the following:
Caldwell Street between Gill
Street and W. High Street
Broadway between Gill Street and Park Avenue
Alley between Caldwell Street and N. Downing Street from Park
Avenue to W. North Street
W. North Street between Caldwell Street and N. Wayne Street
W. Greene Street between Caldwell Street and N. Wayne Street
Boone Street between Caldwell Street and N. Downing Street
Camp Street between Broadway and Caldwell Street
S. Main Street between E. Main

Johnson Street between S. Wayne Street and 200ft east of S. Main
Garnsey Street between S. Roosevelt Avenue and S. Main Street
E. Grant Street from S. Main Street to end of street
East Street from E. Grant Street south to end of street
S. Downing Street between Garnsey Street and Commercial Street
Commercial Street from S. Downing Street to 200ft west of
The work will consist of
installing a polyethylene (plastic) system to replace the
current bare steel and cast iron gas pipeline system. First, the
gas main will be replaced within the right-of-way, and then the
service lines serving residential and commercial customers will
be replaced. Upon completion of the project, affected yards,
sidewalks and streets will be restored.
Prior to service replacement, a Vectren representative will
contact customers to schedule this portion of the work, which
will involve a short service interruption. Additionally, a
Vectren representative will schedule a time to relight any
natural gas appliances of impacted customers.
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as
the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce
their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through
the work zone area.
