Dancing with the Piqua Stars is back, with a new cast, new sponsor and another exciting competition.

On April 5th, a new group of well-known community members will test new skills with experienced dance partners as they dance for charity at Piqua Arts Council's third year of Dancing with the Piqua Stars. The popular fundraising event is modeled after the long-running television series. Piqua Arts Council is pleased to introduce Thrivent Financial as sponsor of the 2014 event.

Eight Piqua-area citizens have been paired with local ballroom dancers to compete under the expert direction of Rick and Judy Bowerman of RJ Ballroom. Contestants will dance twice for the title on Saturday, April 5 at A Learning Place during an afternoon dessert matinee and an evening dinner performance.

The 2014 cast includes Jill Trevino ( Practice Administrator, Daytree Medical Services), Teresa Anderson (Principal, Springcreek Elementary School), Cris Valdez (President, Edison Community College), Gretchen Lorenz M.D. (Piqua Family Practice), Mike Cox ( CEO, Polysource), Mary Frances Rodriguez (Marketing Manager, Buckeye Insurance Group), (Piqua Chief of Police) Bruce Jamison, Chuck Black (Local Sales Manager/Senior AE, Muzzy Broadcasting), Bill Hogston ( Firefighter/Paramedic, City of Piqua), Maria Hogston (Manager, Market Street Hair Company, Troy), Bill Holtvogt ( President, H & B Holt Enterprises), Sarah Jones R.N. ( Infusion Center Manager , Upper Valley Medical Center), Mark Jones ( Owner, Jones Home Repair), Dr. Kristene Clark (Owner, Johnston Chiropractic, Greenville), Amy Williams (Staffing Counselor, Patrick Staffing) and Scott Clark ( Engineering Manager/Electrical Engineer, Design Technologies, Troy).

The mirrorball trophy winner will be announced at the gala dinner show. The decision is based on "dollar vote fundraising" and the winner is the star who raises the most money on behalf of the Piqua Arts Council. A technical merit award is also presented, based on six judges' combined critiques of the two performances.

Contestants will be taking lessons, rehearsing their dances and soliciting votes over the winter. Beginning January 6, fans can vote for their favorite dancer at or at PAC's 427 N. Main Street office. Dancer bios, ballots, and event information about Dancing with The Piqua Stars 2014, presented by Thrivent Financial, can be found at the website. Votes are tax deductible.

Tickets will go on sale in March. Proceeds from the event benefit the Piqua Arts Council's ongoing efforts to enrich the entire community by making the arts accessible and presenting quality cultural and educational programs enhancing quality of life for all area citizens.
