FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions |
|
| I
depend on an oxygen machine 24 hours a day. How can I be sure that I
will have my power restored immediately following an outage?
We cannot guarantee that customers on life-sustaining medical equipment will have their power restored immediately following an outage. We recommend these customers have a contingency plan, including a battery-powered backup system and transportation to the hospital if needed. I have an electric garage-door opener. Does that mean I’m trapped in my house during a power outage? No. Most electric garage-door openers are equipped with a manual release device that allows you to raise the door by hand during a power outage. Refer to your owner’s manual for instructions. Why do I have to call you to report my outage? Doesn’t your computer tell you that my power is out? Although our outage monitoring systems help us identify large segments of customers affected by an outage, they do not fully allow us to determine where individual power outages are or when everyone’s power is restored. We need your help in letting us know where individual trouble spots are and to help us identify areas with downed power lines that present a public safety hazard. Why does my neighbor have power and I don’t? Your neighbor’s power supply is probably served by a different circuit or by a different service drop, the individual lines that run power to homes on your street. If your neighbors have power and you don’t, you should first check your breakers. If your power is still off call us to report your outage. There may be a problem with your individual service drop or your home’s electrical system. Can I use a portable generator to produce electricity for my home during an outage? Yes, but please follow the safety recommendations of the portable generator. Will Piqua Power System reimburse me for food spoilage during an outage? Piqua Power System can’t take responsibility for food spoilage and other occurrences that are the result of power outages due to an act of nature, such as strong winds, snow storms, thunderstorms, lightning, etc. Will Piqua Power System reimburse me for damaged appliances or equipment? Again, Piqua Power System can’t take responsibility for outages, part power or voltage problems that are the result of an act of nature, such as strong winds, snow storms, thunderstorms, lightning, etc., or because of the acts of third parties such as construction dig ins or vehicle accidents. If you experience part power or voltage problems, turn off your electricity at your circuit breaker and call Piqua Power System. |
