Salary
With a starting salary of over $47,000 for
sworn officers, the pay and benefits for a Piqua Police
Officer are among the highest in the area. In addition,
qualifying officers who have completed five (5) years service
with the Piqua Police Department may receive up to 3%
additional salary under the Master Police Officer program.
Officers also receive overtime compensation at one and one
half times their base salary for court appearances, training
or other duties outside normal scheduled duty hours.
Following is a table of pay
steps for Police officers, effective March 1, 2007. Annual
raises are a part of the labor agreement between the City of
Piqua and the Police Officer's Bargaining Unit. |
| Benefits
Insurance: Medical
insurance is provided. The City of Piqua pays for individual
or family coverage. The City offers Professional Liability
Insurance for the officer. $50,000 life insurance for the
officer is provided, and the officer may purchase additional
life insurance coverage for family members.
Available Leave: Employees earn
120 hours sick leave, and 80 hours vacation leave per year.
Additional vacation leave accrual is based on years of
service. Officers also receive 48 hours personal time per
year. Vacation leave may be accumulated to a maximum of 240
hours. There is no limit on the accrual of sick leave. All
personal leave must be used within the year it is earned.
Holiday Compensation: Ten
holidays have been designated official City holidays by the
Labor Agreement between the City and the Police Officer's
Bargaining Unit. (New Year's Eve Day, New Year's Day,
President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,
Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day,
and Christmas Day). Any officer that is working on the
observed city holiday is compensated 1 ½ times their normal
rate of pay for that day. Officers may accumulate 8 hours
time, or receive 8 hours pay for each holiday.
Retirement: All Employees
participate in the Ohio Police and Fire Disability and Pension
plan. Optional participation in other programs, such as the
Ohio Public Employees Deferred Compensation Fund, is also
available.
Miscellaneous Benefits: Tuition
assistance, wellness program, accidental death and
dismemberment insurance plans, Ohio Municipal League
Insurance, the Ohio Tuition Trust Authority, and the Public
Employees in Miami County Credit Union are also available. |
