include assignment to the Investigative Unit, School Resource
Officer Unit, Training Unit, and Tactical Response Team.

Advancement
After five years of continuous and
uninterrupted satisfactory service as a sworn police officer,
one becomes eligible to participate in the promotional process
for the position of Lieutenant. After successfully
completing a one-year probationary period after promotion, an
officer is permanently appointed to the rank of Lieutenant,
and is eligible to participate in the promotional process for
the position of Deputy Chief. Normally, an eligibility
list for promotional purposes is established when a vacancy in
a higher rank exists or is expected to exist. A
promotional eligibility list may be valid for a period of two
years once the City Civil Service Commission certifies the
results.
The promotional process for each
position may include a written examination, assessment process
testing, an oral review board, and seniority credit.
The Chief of Police heads the Piqua
Police Department. Other ranks in the department include
Deputy Chief, Lieutenant, and Police Officer. |
