| The Piqua Police Department
is a full-time municipal police agency, which provides
comprehensive law enforcement services and programs for the
City of Piqua. Piqua has a Council-Manager form of local
government and the Police Chief reports to the City
Manager. Community policing and problem solving are core
philosophies of the department.
The department employs thirty-four (34)
sworn officers and six (6) full-time civilian
employees. This includes the Chief, two (2) Deputy
Chiefs (Bureau Commanders), six (6) Lieutenants, twenty-one
(21)
Patrol Officers, three (3) investigators, and one (1) school
resource officer. The civilian staff includes an
Administrative Assistant to the Chief, four (4) Records
Clerks/Secretaries, and one Public Service Officer. The
department's communications is provided by a regional
consolidated Police/Fire/EMS Communications Center. The
department is divided into three major components and each has
a specific responsibility for functions of the
department. The three bureaus include the Office of the
Chief of Police, the Patrol Bureau, and the Services Bureau.
The City of Piqua Police
Department received its fifth law enforcement accreditation
award from CALEA
(Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies)
on March 15, 2008 at the CALEA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Police Department was first accredited in 1994. The
department received re-accreditation in 1999, 2002, 2005 and
2008. |
