The City's Department of Economic
Development is responsible for economic development involving
the city government. The city works through many groups and
individuals to pursue economic growth and development. The
major partner for the City's Economic Development efforts is the
Piqua Improvement Corporation, which was formed in 1979.
The Piqua Improvement Corporation (PIC) is a non-profit,
improvement corporation, licensed by the State of Ohio to
conduct economic development. The State requires that 40% of the
ten member PIC Board of Trustees be elected or appointed city
officials. These members currently include the Mayor, the City
Manager, a City Commissioner, and the Municipal Power Director.
PIC is a public/private partnership between the City of Piqua
and the City's business/industrial community. Funding for PIC
comes from private member contributions.
The mission of the Piqua Improvement Corporation is to assist
the City's Economic Development Department in its work to retain
existing business/industry and recruit new business/Industry,
while promoting the City of Piqua as a good place to do business.
PIC promotes Piqua through various
marketing programs and works with state and regional development organizations such as the Dayton
Development Coalition, AMP-OHIO, and
the Ohio Department of Development to encourage new development
in Piqua.
