| The Public Health Nurse is part of
the City of Piqua Health Department. The Public Health Nurse
provides or coordinates the following services: |

| BCMH Program |
| |
| The
Public
Health Nurse
accepts referrals for the BCMH
(Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps) program from
physicians, school nurses, and teachers on identified children
ages birth to 21 with possible medical handicaps. BCMH is a
state funded program which provides both a diagnostic phase and
treatment phase for the child. The mission of BCMH is to
assure through the development of high quality, coordinated
systems, that children with special care needs and their families
obtain comprehensive care and services which are family centered,
community based and culturally competent.
Referrals
by phone are acceptable from the community at large by the calling
the Piqua Health Department at 937-778-2058.

| Infectious Disease Program |
| |
| The Public
Health Nurse
receives all suspected and confirmed cases of Infectious Disease
from physicians’ offices, labs, and schools which are defined by
the state as Class A, B, or C according to the 1998 revised Ohio
Administrative Code. The Public
Health Nurse
follows up on all STD's (Sexually Transmitted Disease) by phone
and letter and is also involved with health education,
consultations, and medical referrals on all STD's.
The Nurse also performs monitoring of communicable
diseases, such as foodborne illnesses and hepatitis. |
