| The Information Technology
Department is responsible for the day-to-day information
technology support of the city government; as well as, setting
and guiding the long-term direction of the city in regards to
information technology and telecommunications.
The department supports various departments’ applications
that run on the city’s AS/400 central computer. These
applications include Accounting, Fixed Assets, Utility Billing
and Collections, Payroll, Income Tax Billing and Collections,
Personnel, Fire Department, Police Department, Inventory
Control, Work Order Processing, Human Resources, Purchasing, and
Vehicle Maintenance.
The department also is responsible for the support of the
fiber optic WAN (Wide Area Network) between city facilities.
This network of more than 80 users gives city employees internal
e-mail capability and the capability to share data files. This
network also allows some specific users access to the Internet
and external e-mail via the fiber optic cables.
In addition to supporting applications on the AS/400 and
supporting the city’s WAN, the Information Technology
Department also assists with applications on PCs and
departmental networks, coordinates the support of city computer
systems and hardware, and coordinates the telephone, cellular
telephone, and pager needs of the city employees.
