The
Community Development Department is responsible for a number of
functions. The department applies for and manages several
federal CDBG grants that include the Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG) Formula Allocation Grant and Community Housing
Improvement (CHIP) Grant, as well as any other grants for
general community development or improvement projects. It
is responsible for master or comprehensive community planning to
provide a long-range guide for providing city and community
services for the growth Piqua anticipates occurring and other
planning efforts.
The
department is also responsible for issuing a variety of
publications about Piqua City Government, including City
of Piqua Services Guidebook (published on the
City’s web page), the periodic city newsletter, The
Spirit, mailed to all citizens and also found on our web
page) and miscellaneous pamphlets and publications. In
addition, the department oversees the city’s transit service,
the Piqua Public Transit Service, which is operated by an
outside contractor, MV Transportation, Inc.. The Director is
responsible for a wide variety of other research projects as
needed by the city government.
The Department provides various support to other city
departments and works hand-in-hand with other city departments
to serve the citizens of Piqua. We strive to provide the
highest quality of service possible and be responsive to the
needs and requests of our citizens and visitors who contact the
department.
The
Community Development Department staff includes the Community
Development Director. When
funded for another federal CHIP grant, as it was in late 2004, a
part-time Finance/Administrative Specialist for the CHIP grants
and a part time Rehab Specialist for the federal CHIP grants are
utilized for that grant.
The
Economic Development Director
works somewhat independently of the Community Development
Department, however is listed as part of the Department.
Economic development is welcome in the city of
Piqua. The City of Piqua Economic
Development Department, supported by a pro-business city
government, works closely with other groups such as
the
Piqua Improvement Corporation, Mainstreet Piqua, Inc., the Piqua
Area Chamber of Commerce, and the citizens of Piqua, to create
an atmosphere where businesses and industries can grow and
prosper. |
