City Hall in the Park

The Piqua City Commission, City Manager, various Department Heads and Piqua citizens met on Saturday, August 4, 2007 beginning at 12:00 PM at Mote Park for City Hall in the Park.

Mr. Enderle introduced members of the City Commission: (Mayor Hudson, Commissioner Terry, Commissioner Patrizio, Commissioner Barhorst and Commissioner Vogt) City Staff: (Harry Bumgarner, Amy Welker, Wayne Willcox, Dean Burch, Rick Maggert, Bill Sommer and Andy Burner).

Chief Wayne Willcox and Health Department Director Amy Welker reviewed information in regards to the Neighborhood Improvement Team efforts within the City of Piqua. As a result of this presentation the following concerns and questions were mentioned:

1. Dumpster behind Paul's Bar has a hole in it and the trash is scattered
2. Garage sales are constant on Covington Avenue and they block the alley. Also signs are being put up around the city advertising sales
3. There is a need for access to the bike path at the Gordon Street area. (Dead-end of Gordon Street)
4. High weeds and grass at dead-end of Gordon Street. Also, street cleaner is not coming to that area Gordon Street. Another concern for Gordon Street was when the alley will be paved?
5. Discussion regarding responsibilities of property owner versus tenant
6. Concern with what can be done to improve property values
7. Registered sex offender-Should citizens be notified of an offender in their neighborhood?
8. Recycling bins-can we use trash cans? Response: Need something with lids
9. Building needs torn down and animals go under and die. (Person will call with address of this building)
10. There are vacant houses with stray cats. (Person will call with address of vacant houses)
11. POINT-Check out tenants (background checks and have uniform leases)
12. The need to deal with commercial properties also. (Re: Paul's Bar, the Old Mill building, Mo's building)
13. 706 Leonard Street is a "jungle" with cats, roof issues and it needs painted
14. Problem with house at the Hollow Park
15. Loud music issues throughout town
16. Franz Pond issues: Smell, insects, not getting whole area when treating
17. Economic Development issues
18. Substation for the Fire Department
19. Tree on bike path near High Street are going to fall down
20. Issues with the old hospital located at 624 Park Avenue
21. Allisten Manor has a pool issue
22. Fountain in water system is not replaced
23. Schmidtlap Library building-Windows need paint.
24. Vehicles at the old hospital located at 624 Park Avenue
25. Public Works -Do not glow grass on streets-Send letter to Lawn Contractor

Mr. Enderle thanked all in attendance and reminded everyone to contact the City if they have further concerns in the future.
