The new Municipal Government
Complex is a $8.193 million project that was first suggested as
part of the "Loop" presentation by the City Manager in
May of 1999.
The new building was
built without any increase in the income taxes for the citizens
and businesses of the City of Piqua.
The project consisted of
building a new two-story structure at Wayne and Water Streets,
remodeling the former City Hall building, and Fire Department
reconstruction (completed in early 2001). The rest of the
complex was completed in November 2001. The new
two-story brick structure is designed to complement and enhance
the historic City Hall building.
The project also includes
an outdoor plaza at the intersection of Wayne and Water
Streets. The new complex will also be linked to the Linear
Park through the rear parking lot.
City departments moved out of
the former City Hall, Police Department and City Annex Building
at the end of April, 2000. Work began on the new complex
in May, 2000. The new complex opened in
November, 2001. |
